Onepunch-Man by ONE Scans Started

Some anonymous individual has begun translating ONE’s original Onepunch-Man/Wanpanman. He started at the bizarre Chapter 32, probably because that would start with the arc directly after the one we’re in currently with Murata. You’ll now have access to the whole Saitama story all the way up to its current run with the most recent chapters.

If you’re interested. I know a lot of, maybe most, people are coming in for Murata’s super art and will be turned away by ONE’s scribble style. I don’t blame you for that at all. The action scenes don’t have the same level of, if you’ll excuse the phrasing, punch as when Murata draws them. It’s still amusing to get a peak ahead at where the story is going. We’ve even got a peek at the top of the Hero’s Association. The person considered the most powerful being on the planet.

And the next great threat to humanity that has come to destroy us all.

It’s something to consider if you’re dying to know what happens next. You never know. You might find a new action scene to change your anticipation from, “I wonder what the next action scene will be like” to “I can’t wait until this gets remastered what’s takingsolong WHYNOTHEREYET.”

You can read the chapters as they are translated at Batoto.

I’d call that a pretty good chapter opening. Sonic explodes how great he is all over the Sea King’s face? Not bad. At least at first. Then the Sea King decides to start trying and reveals his true form. What a jerk.

He still has the crown. This is the best comic.

The answer to the question about Sonic’s gender you’ve all be waiting for!

But I would say the real draw of this chapter is that we’ve got a whole host of new heroes, and they all have the best names ever ever.

C Rank Hero “Allbackman”

B Rank Hero “Jet Nice Guy” and C Rank Hero “Bunbun Man” (I think it comes from that “Buun” is the onomotopeia for a bug buzzing around, so “Buzz” or “BuzzBuzz Man” His shirt says “Fist.”

And, if I’m reading this right, A Rank Hero “Snake Bite Fist Snake.”

And they’re all going to fight this guy!

Yeah! You do it!

You can check out the whole raw at Tonarinoyj.

The translation is up for OPM 31.

I’m disappointed in myself for noticing that he retained the crown, but not that he retained the heart nipples on my first pass.

Ah, I was close with that guy’s name. But not to worry.

I’m sure he’ll be able to keep the appropriately labeled citizens safe regardless of name.

You can read the full chapter either through Boon or Batoto. If you head over to Boon, there’s also some pictures of the OPM sign that was put up at Shibuya station. It’s cool too.

The dramatic bike action you’ve been waiting all month for! The chapter is unfortunately short at only 12 pages, but no less beautiful.

Saitama is angry at his lack of screen time and that his phone doesn’t have GPS.

Biting Snake Fist Sneck seems to be holding up pretty well in that he’s not dead.

And fortunately if he has any problems, Genos shows up to help him in the most awesome way possible.

You can read the whole raw at Tonarinoyj. I have it on good authority that we’re gearing up for something spectacular.

I knew Licenseless Rider was the owner of that bike, but seeing him use special moves is so wonderful.

OPM 32 is up and scanned. A bite-sized chapter on our way to great things, but it contains some interesting new things.

Saitama’s finally starting to get a break, even if it’s out of mistrust

While the art contrast usually comes from Saitama, I love how Genos’s super cyborg arms look next to his dime store sneakers.

You can read the full chapter either from Boon or over on Batoto.

Edit: Tonarinoyj has released an anniversary wallpaper with some of their most popular series gathered together. As much as I like seeing so many OPM characters with Saitama at the forefront, Old Man of the Underworld looks so crudely placed there it’s like they placed him there in paint. And it’s glorious.

That Murata got out the next chapter of OPM while I wasn’t looking, but I’m not too broken up about it because the translation is already up as well. Be excited!

I mean, look how excited the Undersea King is!

Actually, the Undersea King and the faces he makes are probably the biggest stars of the show. Not that that’s any different from the rest of the arc.

Who else would hawk an acidic loogie at a little girl just because she cheered against him?

Also, Genos kicks him really hard in the face, and it’s awesome.

You can read the translated chapter in the Boon Gallery or over on Batoto. Next chapter is apparently due out on the 18th.

The death match, or more appropriately sea creature beat down, is about to begin. It’s short. If you count spreads as two pages, it’s only 11, but it’s not like normal where the chapter feels like it’s being cut short. No, this is a completely appropriate length for what happens. I won’t post many pictures, but I will tell you

The punch has been made fun of,

And the crown is off.

You can check out the whole raw at Tonarinoyj. Since this isn’t very long, you can probably expect the translation later today.

Edit: Just like that. Still don’t want to show you what happens, so if you’re looking for the translation, head over either to the Picasa Gallery or Batoto.

ONE Translation Catches up to ONE Originals

Have you been reading the translated original Wanpanman? I know some of you have considering how many extra views there were on the post I made about WPM 88 the other day. Well, just to let you know, the translation has officially caught up to the current ONE original raws. If you haven’t been reading it yet, I highly suggest it. I mentioned the art thing, but I’m serious. You need to read this. I say with no doubt that if this current fight keeps up the pace and quality it has right now, it very well may be my favorite fight in manga period.

But what does that mean for us? Well, since there’s now a wait for two types of raws, I think I’ll also now inform you when a new ONE raw comes out. So basically, I’ll do for the ONE version what I already do for the Murata version. The translator, HellMuT, doesn’t have a website I’m aware of to direct you at, but I’ll keep you up to date when a new chapter comes to Batoto. The downside is consistency. ONE doesn’t write WPM professionally. He does make some money off it, I’m sure, but he doesn’t do it for anyone other than himself, so there’s no update schedule. This most recent chapter came out earlier this month, but the chapter before that came out back either during either June or May. I can’t promise when they’ll come out, but I’ll let you know when they do.

Take your time reading. You have plenty, but make sure you do. It’s quite a ride.

Onepunch-Man Tankoban 4 Bonus Chapter Scanned

OPM’s fourth tankoban comes with a special Sonic themed bonus chapter. It takes place a little before he makes his appearance to fight the Undersea King right after Prisoner. I’ll be forward, this chapter, taking place in prison, makes some jabs that get uncomfortable even if you take them the best possible way. On the other hand, the last two pages are distilled Saitama greatness, so take it how you will.

You can read the full chapter at Batoto or on the Picasa gallery.

The last OPM was just shy of catching up to the ONE original translation. We got to see the Sea King go down, but we didn’t see the aftermath. A little redraw later, and we’re officially caught up with the two halves joining together at the end of this arc. Murata’s redraw is from the bottom up including Saitama’s attack against the Sea King. It’s much less flashy now, but it is no less incredible. The detail of the invisible shockwave using only the rain and surrounding buildings is absolutely beautiful. Saitama is no less awesome in his punch with a little more subtlety.

And his handling of the aftermath is pretty great too.

You can read the whole chapter either in the Picasa gallery or on Batoto. See you either in the ONE versions or in the next redraw.

The wait is over for original content. Issue 36 is another original work chapter for the redraw not present in the original ONE webcomic. It’s a little bridge between the end of the Sea Folk arc and the next major arc. It starts off with Genos and Saitama getting an airdrop of letters from the public. Genos gets fan letters, Saitama gets blasted for how he’s now perceived after what he said. But for all the bad things that can be said:

Letter: “Hero Saitama, Thank You!!”

Sometimes something good gets through.

The chapter is mostly about Saitama’s current standing within the Association and his potential promotion. He spends a little under half the chapter, 8 pages out of 19, at the main building in an interview to see how to handle him. There’s difficulties and things about factions within the various ranks. But we can put that on hold.

Sometimes real heroes just have to sit back and relax.

Check out the full raw over on Tonarinoyj. If we’re lucky, we can expect a translation later today.

Sometimes you have to step back and appreciate the scanned. I gotta give the guy credit for how well he cleaned the paper Saitama’s various letters are on. Very nice.

Anyway, this is the warmest, fuzziest chapter of OPM so far. It may be the king of that for this manga forever for how easily it can put a smile on your face. Saitama’s attitude, Genos’s loyalty, and a certain other character’s appreciation really make this bonus chapter shine, so check it out. You can read it through the Picasa gallery here or over on Batoto here.

I Appreciate Your New Designs, but when I Draw Nipples, They Stay

Slow day, so I’m digging around on Naver and decided to try OPM instead of JoJo’s or Titan this time. Man, did that pay off. Did you ever think that Yusuke Murata might be a really good artist?

Because I ran across a gallery that someone compiled of a point by point comparison of the two versions. It’s not every little detail, but major panels like this where a character is introduced or something cool happens.

Some of them are good.

And some of them are outright incredible. If I didn’t already know these are supposed to be the same design, I don’t know that I’d ever draw the comparison. I wonder what it’s like for Murata to be on the other side of this equation, as opposed to when he submitted doodles to Capcom that would eventually become Dust Man. Then again, considering his talent, I could see those kid submissions being on the Capcom concept art level back then.

Check out the whole gallery. Comparing the two one after the other is fine, but seeing the two versions side-by-side may really stun you.

The two have finally linked up. With this redraw, the Murata OPM has overlapped with the ONE Wanpanpan translations. You can now read the two side by side as the new redraws come out and get the story immediately. The guy over on Boon even mentioned that he may just use this translation for the updates since it’s a very solid translation. That’ll only fly for chapters that come from the original work, though. There will still have to be new translations of original chapters.

In the meantime, this makes it much easier to draw comparisons between versions because I’m familiar with this part of the story.

Entrance to the Heroes Association S Rank Meeting Building

The first official appearance of Tatsumaki/Tornado of Hell

And the first appearance of Blast, the strongest hero!

I’m almost a little disappointed that Blast’s “Absent” silhouette has been softened and isn’t the same quick doodle, but it’s fine.

You can check out the whole raws over on Tonarinoyj. If you’re hungry for the translation, you can read the original for the same story that’s already been translated. They cover the same material up to the same point even.

Just letting you know that the new one is out in English. I said before that you can probably use the anonymous translation done for the ONE version, but this one actually contains a different translation. The material is same, of course, but the language has adjusted to be just a bit less clunky. For example, Tatsumaki/Tornado:

Instead of “It’s unpleasant! Disappear!” Both translations are fine, but now you can pick your language flow preference.

It hasn’t been uploaded to Batoto yet, so you’ll have to read it on the Picasa gallery.

“Maybe I Should Just Update All the Art…” Cannonball 1 and all the Murata Products You Could Want

$

Yusuke Murata, a man whose art I hope you’ve come to know and love by now, has helped to create and joined a Circle called Cannonball to release some new works. He’s working alongside three others I’ve never heard of and can only find information that links back to this very book, but there are samples of their work for this collection (1, 2, 3.) I’m not sure what the art in those pictures means for the stories they’re doing, but Murata himself will be doing a Momotaro story.

It’s been quite a while, but I don’t know if that’s a character from Momotaro, so when I say he’s doing a Momotaro story, I may mean that he’s using the character and making up whatever he feels like. If you’re interested, the book itself will launch on the 20th from MelonBooks. Fair warning, MelonBooks has an 18+ warning, but that link shouldn’t lead you to anything suspect. Be careful all the same.

However, if you’re interested in Murata’s works themselves as relate to OPM, you should follow this link to MelonBooks. That link will take you to the Murata tag where you can get all the OPM tankobans, including the 4th one with Bang on the cover that I can’t even find on Japanese Amazon, the other oneshot by him and ONE that I haven’t seen a translation for “Kaiju of the Earth,” and the t-shirt version of Saitama’s “OPPAI” hoodie. Don’t know a lot about how this place handles international shipping, but if you’ve been aching for that boob shirt, now you’ve got a place to start.

Onepunch-Man Anime Fan OP 1

Fans do some cool things. This is exactly what it says on the label. Someone via what looks like a YouTube comment asked these guys to make an anime OP for OPM, and they just busted out an original song just for that. I assume the song is called “Onepunch-Man Forever.” The whole video uses camera effects on manga pages and maybe even some .gifs you’ve seen before, but it looks pretty cool. Probably because Murata’s art and sense of motion could carry an anime OP on their own, but putting them all together looks nice. There’s also a few original drawing here and there, and the song being made in this style while being OPM’s unique thing is just too cool.

I found this via ONE’s twitter, so go like it a billion or so times so one day this might actually happen.

I Refuse to Draw Until Saitama Puts Some Pants On!

A new special ONE brand bonus OPM chapter has come out to celebrate the comic’s official running in Young Jump! This is not a side story chapter, but it’s also not a main chapter because it’s actually a Q/A chapter for fans. ONE answers some questions via Genos, then gets backed into a corner about update schedules before being saved by Saitama’s nudity. It’s a cute little gag, and maybe we’ll actually get a new chapter out of it.

As for the Murata remake, it’s finally time. Viz has gotten to the point where they are releasing these simultaneously with Murata’s versions, and that means that Boon Scans should be backing off from it. You’ll need to look for new chapters in Viz’s Weekly Jump online from now on. I’ve unfortunately heard there are a lot of issues getting that service to work in certain European countries, and I don’t have a solution for that at the moment other than praying Viz decides to release the tankoban.

As the year comes to a close, it becomes time for news sites, review sites, and what have you to start throwing their Best Of lists in our faces. How much stock you like to put into those varies by person, but it’s always nice to see someone with publishing power backing you up. OtonaFami, Otona means “Adult” but I’m not sure what the Fami means, has brought out their Top 50 Manga of 2013, and standing at the top of that list is a bald guy who accidentally wandered up here looking for the coupon that fell out of his pocket.

Onepunch-man has been voted OtonaFami‘s Number 1 of the Top 50 manga of 2013. This is list that includes the breakout super hits of Attack on Titan (#4) and Assassination Classroom (#6) and the super pedigree and very well done Silver Spoon (#22.) Those little crude, if well laid out, doodles turned works of modern art master have taken this little story quite far. Now all we have to do is clone ONE so he can write this and Mob Psycho 100 at a decent pace at the same time.
